Varicose veins or problematic veins in the legs can cause pain, swelling, and discomfort. Modern treatment options focus on minimally invasive procedures that reduce recovery time while providing excellent results. One such method is laser vein closure, which is precise, safe, and almost painless.

Identifying the Vein

  • Before the procedure, a sonography (ultrasound) is performed to identify the exact vein.
  • The vein is mapped to ensure that the treatment targets only the affected areas.
  • Proper identification minimizes complications and ensures effective closure.

The Laser Procedure

  1. Anesthesia is administered to make the patient comfortable.
  2. A needle is inserted into the target vein under ultrasound guidance.
  3. A guidewire and working port (about 1–2 mm in diameter) are introduced.
  4. A laser fiber is threaded through the working port.
  5. Saline solution is injected around the vein to protect surrounding tissues.
  6. The laser energy heats and closes the targeted vein.

Key Points:

  • Veins unsuitable for laser treatment are removed through tiny incisions without the need for large cuts or stitches.
  • The entire procedure takes approximately 30–35 minutes, making it quick and convenient.
  • Most patients do not require extensive hospitalization or long-term bed rest.

Recovery and Postoperative Care

  • Hospital stay is short – usually 1–2 days (36 hours on average).
  • Patients can walk and move immediately after the procedure.
  • Minimal discomfort allows for normal daily activities within a day or two.
  • No large bandages or stitches are required, making recovery smooth and hassle-free.
